In short
The Know Your Buy app doesn't collect, send or store any personal data. It never connects to the internet. This website uses Google Analytics to count visits; it doesn't show ads or sell data.
The Know Your Buy app
- Know Your Buy runs entirely on the laptop being tested and makes no network connections.
- It reads hardware information only: model, processor, graphics, memory, drives, battery, temperatures and fan speeds. It doesn't open or read anyone's files.
- Reports (PDF or HTML, plus a .json file with the raw numbers) and log files are saved on the USB stick next to the app. They stay with you; we never receive them.
- Reports include the laptop's hardware details, which can include drive serial numbers. Treat them like any document about the laptop, and only share them if you want to.
- Clean up & Exit removes Know Your Buy's temporary files from the laptop.
This website
- The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and roughly how many people visit. Google sets cookies for this and receives standard technical details (pages viewed, approximate location, browser and device type). Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- No advertising trackers. Fonts are served from this site, not from Google.
- Like any website, the hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser and pages requested) to keep the site running and secure.

If this changes, for example if we add online reports, we'll update this page and the date at the top before it happens.
